Sammy Wheeler

Services for Sammy DeVone “Sam” Wheeler, 75, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2024, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Sis. Delana Wheeler officiating.

Interment will follow in Starr Cemetery.

Mr. Wheeler passed away July 29, 2024, at his residence in Grand Saline. He was born January 5, 1949, in Spring, to Harry Levi and Irene Prestidge Wheeler. Sam lived most of his life in Grand Saline and was a member of the Nazarene Chapel, Grand Saline. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the VFW Post 6635 in Grand Saline and the VFW Post 7523 in Mineola. On September 6, 2008, he married Linda Fay Bowles in Grand Saline. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Billie Jane Pitts and Dottie Lee Wheeler; and brother, Roger Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife of almost 16 years, Linda Wheeler of Grand Saline; son, Daniel Wheeler and wife Audrey of Winnsboro; stepson, Jimmy Lynch and wife Tamra of Grand Saline; stepdaughter, Cara Norman and husband Chris of Canton; two brothers, Bobby Joe Wheeler of Golden and Ricky Wheeler and wife Cindy of Elizabethtown, KY; sister, Kay Dobbins and husband Ed of Bryan; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Buster Bowles, Jimmy Lynch, David Bowles, Chris Norman, Ricky Wheeler, and Bryan Wheeler.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
